1978: MARVEL COMICS INDEX - ISSUE 1
THE MARVEL COMICS INDEX was, as the name suggests, a series of publications (not actually published by Marvel. At least, not at first...) with the ambitious aim to chronicle the Marvel Universe, story-by-story.
Masterminded by uber-fan George Olshevsky, these magazine-format guides launched in 1976 and appeared sporadically until 1982. Marvel then drafted-in Olshevsky to pen THE OFFICIAL MARVEL INDEX series (which broadly followed the same formula, albeit now comic book-sized with colour interiors).
This is the cover for that fateful first edition which covered THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.
Marvel has periodically revisited the INDEX series in the intervening decades, most recently in the last few years. The latest incarnation, which was, unfortunately, cancelled earlier this year combined three series in the monthly book before reissuing the material in handy book-format. Marvel smartly picked media-friendly titles to index, coinciding in most cases with the latest Marvel theatrical film.
At the time of writing, the WOLVERINE book seems to have vanished from the schedules, presumably awaiting the release of the next movie.
1984: KP ALIEN SPACERS ADVERT - PART FOUR (IPC)
The fourth, and final, part of the KP ALIEN SPACERS saga, as chronicled in IPC weeklies dated 29 September 1984. Once again, the denizens of the galaxy are free to eat bizarrely-shaped snacks of indeterminate origin again. Hurrah.

1978: MAN FROM ATLANTIS in PIZZAZZ MAGAZINE (Marvel)
Marvel didn't just publish the (short-lived) MAN FROM ATLANTIS comic book, they also (briefly) covered the making of the show in the second issue of PIZZAZZ MAGAZINE (November 1977).
1978: JAMES BOND CORGI TOYS ADVERT
As we await SKYFALL, here's an advert for the JAMES BOND toys that were playground essentials in the late-seventies.
It appeared in Marvel UK weeklies dated 13 September 1978 (and, almost certainly, other weeks as well).
1978: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA MOVIE STORYBOOK (Brown Watson)
This A4 hardback photo-heavy book was published, by Brown Watson, to coincide with the theatrical release of the (edited) pilot episode, Saga of a Star World, in British cinemas.
Predictably, it was an adaptation of that self-same episode. The text suffered from a number of typos (Boomer became Bloomer etc.) but most Star Warriors really wanted it for the copious amounts of photos.
Several of the images were from scenes which didn't make the final cut of any version of the episode. As the number of deleted scenes on the DVD box set show, a lot of additional material was shot that never made it into the final TV cut. For the most part, the feature film version was just a truncated edit of the TV episode
This hefty hardback, along with the BG bubblegum cards, was an essential playground item for late seventies Star Warriors. And - as a result - it's not hard to find copies from second-hand dealers.
1984: KP ALIEN SPACERS ADVERT - PART THREE (IPC)
Today is Part Three of the KP ALIEN SPACERS double-page advert, originally published in IPC weeklies dated 22 September 1984.
