1992: MOVIE MAGAZINE (STARLOG UK)

This is a magazine I'd long forgotten about: MOVIE, published in the summer of 1992 by Trident.

Despite the fairly generic title (it sounds like its pitched at the broad EMPIRE/ TOTAL FILM market) this was, as the microscopic subtitle (look under the "M") says, a licensed British edition of STARLOG MAGAZINE.  Not to be confused, of course, with the later British edition of the 'Log which lasted a bit longer than Movie's two issue run.

The contents were all straight reprints cribbed from the US magazine.  Some of the articles must have been a tadge dated as the second issue had to run an apology that the STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION article in the first had failed (because he wasn't dead when it was first written and published in the States) the death of Gene Roddenberry the previous October.

The second issue was also the last.

Trident were also responsible for the early runs of British editions of the likes of INDIANA JONES, THE TERMINATOR and ALIENS all (probably*) licensed from Dark Horse Comics.

* A Dark Horse-published guide to their output stated that these editions were unlicensed, although that still seems unlikely to me and I've not found any contemporary reportage to back that up.  Yet.

  1. Wow - I have this issue! I was only 16 when I picked it up, staying with a family in Dublin as I undertook a summer animation course. Memories.
