1977: DRACULA LIVES IN MWOM (Marvel UK)

DRACULA LIVES! Again.

The Prince of Darkness was temporarily laid to rest following the demise of PLANET OF THE APES AND DRACULA LIVES when only the movie tie-in made the immediate leap into the pages of THE MIGHTY WORLD OF MARVEL.

However, with the last of the US Apes strips exhausted (and the license running out), Tomb of Dracula reprints were belatedly used to plug the gap.

Here's a House Ad from MWOM 15 June 1977 announcing his imminent resurrection.

  1. Planet of the Apes and Dracula Lives merged with No.88 but Dracula only lasted about five weeks before being dropped so for its' final thirty or so issues POTA & DL had no Dracula in it despite his name being on the masthead.

  2. Oh interesting!

I must confess, when I scanned the covers of the issues I've acquired a couple of years ago, I didn't pay too much attention to the back-up strips. Looking at those scans again (posted yonks ago) it does indeed seem like the continued use of the title was justified by the inclusion of Man-Thing rather than Dracula itself.

Seems strange to discontinue the strip… maybe they really did realise it was a poor fit with POTA and thought a Muck Monster was more palatable with readers.

If only Lynn Faulds Wood and Anne Robinson had been in business way-back-when...
