1993: COMIC MARTS IN LONDON

Flicking through issue 35 of COMICS INTERNATIONAL, published in September 1993 at the height of the speculator boom, I was struck by the sheer number of COMIC MARTS being hosted in London.

Indeed, throughout October, it was possible to attend one virtually every weekend.  And the one weekend there wasn't anything happening… there was a CARD MART to fill the gap.

These days, there is only one event… and it pops-up somewhat erratically so sometimes the gap between events is less than a month… sometimes its over two months.

Of course, there are the bigger events at Excel and Earls Court/ Olympia to help fill the gaps but there overwhelming size, and different mix of dealers, make them a lot less fun than the old-fashion never-know-what-you-might-find Marts.

I've scanned the various ads that appeared in the issue… just for old time's sake.

I'm sure I attended at least some of these…
