From May 1978 (so not long after the UK release of the film in cinemas): the pre-home video way of getting your own watch-it-at-home copy of STAR WARS.
Of course... there was a snag. Not only (depending on how much cash... and this wasn't cheap... you opted to plunk down) were you likely to be buying a black & white mute copy... but you were also only buying a random eight minutes (or, tops, twenty minutes) to watch again and again.
Those were the days...
