1992: NOT OF THIS EARTH Magazine: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA

From November 1993: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA in NOT OF THIS EARTH SPECIAL EDITION.

This was the last of NOTE to appear as a normal black & white magazine before they adopted the book format for their next two "issues".

The extensive Battlestar article might gave been familiar to readers of GALACTIC JOURNAL.  It's a reworked and rewritten version of Steven Simak's long article that appeared in this 1988 issue.  Even if you've read that version, it's still worth seeking out this one... and the copy of SCI-FI UNIVERSE which rewrote it again... and that time presented it in colour.

  1. Slow, you may have noticed that ACE magazine has already ceased publication.

Even though the PREVIEWS catalogue already had several future issues shown, the title had stopped appearing on the weekly lists from the previews website. The next issue would have had an ANT-MAN cover story so they really missed out there.

The editor told me that sales were too low to continue. There are certainly plenty of unsold copies still clogging up the shelves in my forbidden planet. He also said he is trying to re-launch the mag on a less frequent basis, maybe as a quarterly but I'm not too hopeful about that.

What a shame as I really liked the price guide section.

    1. Oh poo! Thanks Ed. That's sad news indeed. I thought ACE had the potential to be a contender. It was certainly several notches above the "that'll do" print version of BLEEDING COOL.

It might have helped casual sales if they hadn't of bagged the issues. What was that all about? Presumably it added to the overall costs of publishing each issue but, because the days of multiple in-bag premiums has long-since past, was pointless and possibly deterred casual browsers.

It seems like another nail in the coffin of magazines about comics. Although at least COMIC BOOK HEROES is coming back in a few months. Apparently.
