1982: CINEMA MAGAZINE PART 2: ISSUE 1 (Marvel UK)

From May 1982: Following on from the one-shot (although it doesn't feel like it) Winter Special, this is the first regular monthly edition of MARVEL UK's soon-to-be-shortlived CINEMA Magazine.

  2. a quick news round-up:

Sadly ,that art of star wars magazine failed to appear in my shops but thanks for the heads up nonetheless.

Out this week is POWER-MAN AND IRON FIST, the latest in the marvel epic collection, over 20 classic issues in one volume. Pricey but worth the buy.

MARVEL CHESS - slow, I don't know if you collect these but the x-men phase seems to have ended. Today, I picked up the DEADPOOL issue which also has a flyer advert for the next special - DRAX and GAMORA.

    1. Cheers Ed.

I was tempted by the POWERMAN/ IRON FIST wallet-raider yesterday but I opted for the new hardback AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF JAMES T. KIRK (thankfully based on the life of the original version rather than the moie-reboot incarnation) instead. Even through it looks suspiciously like an episode guide dressed up as personal recollections. But I only had a quick flick in the shop.

I'm not collecting the MARVEL CHESS SETS. I just don't have the shelf space and I don't play chess myself.

A couple of things I did pick-up (if that's the right word) from AMAZON this week: the long-awaited second volume of BY YOUR COMMAND from Telos Books, this time covering the BATLLESTAR GALACTICA remake and spin-offs. I didn't stick with the new series for the long haul (although I did come back for the finale) but the book was still a must have. The first volume covers the original series and G80.

I also got a new book which covers the various comic book versions of PLANET OF THE APES. The publisher has done a similar book on STAR TREK comics in the past and both come STARLOGGED recommended.

  3. I must admit I only buy the occasional marvel chess issue for the mag not the oiece itself. And I got my facts wrong, its still on the x-men theme until at least issue 50.

And you may have noticed in PREVIEWS that eaglemoss are launching yet ANOTHER marvel files special, this time with a cosmic theme. The first one is rocket racoon. So the line now reads as:

    MARVEL FACT FILE

MARVEL FACT FILE SPECIAL WITH FIGURE

MARVEL FACT FILE COSMIC SPECIAL WITH FIGURE

I must check out those books ,they sound good.
