From 1975: Forget the Bullpen's post TMP venture into the TREKverse... This is (unless you know different) the first time that STAR TREK appeared on the cover of a Marvel publication.
MONSTERS OF THE MOVIES, published under the Curtis Magazines masthead, was another interation of the FAMOUS MONSTERS formula. Although this claims to be an annual (essential a regular magazine but with a bolstered page count rather than the hardback stocking stuffer that Brits know and love), the small print inside reveals its actually the ninth issue of the regular mag.
There's no comic strips inside but there is, as the cover announces, a new Nimoy interview.
The production standards seem painfully old fashioned and this type of magazine would soon be overtaken by the likes of STARLOG, STARBURST and the next generation of genre titles.

ReplyDeleteIt seems the popularity of the tv series ARROW and THE FLASH are having a positive effect on comic sales. Along with their numerous BATMAN titles, titan uk are now set to publish a further two :
THE FLASH due on Oct 15
GREEN ARROW due on Oct 29
It will be interesting to see how long they last. All of titans dc line used to be in a large format until they switched to the marvel collectors edition size. An earlier ARROW title only lasted for three issues while THE FLASH enjoyed a recent one shot. Perhaps the sales were good enough to warrant his own on-going title. He's also on the cover of the current issue of titan's JUSTICE LEAGUE.
That's interesting... Especially that they think that they can have another crack at ARROW. I'm not a follower of either character in print or on screen but I will grab the first issues when they appear.
ReplyDeleteYou might be interested to know that a new slab of a hardback, DC COMICS IN THE BRONZE AGE has now reached the UK. This is the third in the series , following (predictably) the Gold and Silver Age volumes. I'd assumed this series had been cancelled a while ago so it came as a surprise to see it. FP were asking £50 (!) but Orbital were asking a far more agreeable £35. No price for guessing which shop got my business. I didn't get a chance to unwrap it last night.
yes my FP had that but I didnt look inside as it was shrink wrapped.. They also had another lovely item called BATMAN : THE WAR YEARS, a collection of vintage bat strips and at the cheaper price of £ 24. Wish Orbital had a Dublin branch, they sound like better value.
