1985: KLINGON SHIP RECOGNITION MANUAL (FASA STAR TREK ROLE PLAYING GAME)

From 1985: Know your enemy (and, eventually, your friend)... the ever so handy KLINGON SHIP RECOGNITION MANUAL, an in-universe supplement created for FASA's STAR TREK THE ROLENPLAYING GAME.

I've previously published the Federation equivalent and I'll post the Romulan edition in the near future.

TV and movie budgets, combined with finite screen time, meant that before TNG we hadn't actually seen much of the Klingon space fleet... so FASA's creative team basically made it up. Padding out the scant information presented for the screen-seen craft with copious supplementary 'facts' and a fleet of hitherto unseen vessels that might make game night more interesting.

I suspect most Trek fans, unless they were also Role Playing fans, were largely oblivious to the existence of these guides as they sold mainly through games outlets rather than comic book stores or traditional book stores.

  1. Slow, do you have a 1985 "Movie Maker" magazine, featuring a fan made Dr. Who & The Daleks film, "Mission Of Doom"?

    1. I'm afraid not. I don't think I've ever seen a copy of that title. They don't seem to surface in the secondhand outlets I frequent.

  2. Its been a good week for STAR-BRAND ( mentioned in your recent post on spidey-zoids ).

Not only did he appear in the latest MARVEL FACT FILE but there was also a welcome re-print of issues 1-10 from the original comic.

Poor old Ken Connell, the reluctant hero. He never wanted his power but it was bestowed upon him nonetheless.

  3. Apologies for the lack of posts. The BLOGGER APP has been refusing to upload all week. I've had to revert to the website powered method of posting in the meantime. Most annoying.

I'm sure I already have a STARBRAND trade somewhere at home. Although the new edition did have some pages from MARVEL AGE MAGAZINE tucked in the back.

Yes there was an earlier reprint but the new one is superior with more supplementary material.
