1981: WARREN PRESENTS: REX HAVOC: RAIDER OF THE FANTASTIC (NOT THE ARK. HONEST)

From November 1981: WARREN PRESENTS issue 14.

I bought this - for a quid - purely on the strength of the cover... an opportunist homage to iNDIANA JONES (and - let's be honest - there was no shortage of Indy homages in the eighties) and the legacy of pulp heroes in general (of whom Doctor Jones was himself a nod of the hat).

Ladies and gentlemen: Rex Havoc: Raider of the Fantastic!

  1. This is the most brilliant thing I've seen all week! An obvious cash grab ... and yet the blurb sounds so intriguing--"He travels the world in search of monsters to destroy"! No question I'd have loved this at age 11 or 12 (or, to be honest, now!)! Would love to see a couple of interior pages if you can post them.

BTW, typo alert in the post title ... Ra-i-der of the Fantastic. Sorry, I'm your typo guy this week!

  2. Thank you. I use a wireless keyboard with my tablet and sometimes the connection drops out on individual keystrokes.

I didn't scan any interior pages when I scanned the cover. Next time I have a scanning session i will try and remember to unearth it again... although I don't have another session planned. Unless - bizarrely - we suddenly have another General Election!

    1. A little on-linery unearthed a few pages that had been scanned for a blog. It's a bit more "Mad Magazine" than I'd expected from the cover, all very tongue-in-cheek.

I am suitably intrigued that you do your scanning during General Elections. That's a very particular pattern to adhere to!

    2. Haha! It's all about finding the time to have a marathon scanning sesh... I've found pulling an all-nighter and watching the election results come in is the best time to do it. I've done it for the last two General Elections and the EU Referendum. I'll have to think of another plan if this Parliament runs the full five years...
