1975: SAVAGE SWORD ON CONAN WEEKLY

SAVAGE SWORD OF CONAN marked a few firsts for the fledgling Annex of Ideas:
1.  It was the first M-UK comic book not based on a Marvel-created character.  Opening the way for PLANET OF THE APES, STAR WARS WEEKLY and the myriad of toy and media-based licensed titles in the eighties.
2.  It was the first M-UK comic not built around superheroes.
3.  It was the first significant failure for the company, axed (ahem) after a mere 18 weeks, hastily merged with (somewhat improbably) THE AVENGERS (from issue 95).

Despite this early disaster, Conan went on to enjoy considerable success in the UK in a variety of titles.  But we'll get to that...
