1978: STAR WARS WEEKLY HOUSE ADS

In 1978, STAR WARS took Britain by storm.  And Marvel UK enjoyed a rare event: a new launch which actually turned into something of a sales phenomena rather than closing within 18-months.

Indeed, so successful was STAR WARS WEEKLY that Dez Skinn has said that publishing giant offered to take over Marvel's whole UK line, just to secure the rights to publish the British edition.

Here is a random selection of STAR WARS house ads from early 1978 (coinciding with the early weeks of the weekly, which launched in February), culled from various issues of THE MIGHTY WORLD OF MARVEL (although they probably ran in SPIDER-MAN as well).

The first is a stylish little piece which doesn't exactly scream Star wars (except for the logo) but just looks so cool.
