1984: DOCTOR WHO SPECIALS COVER GALLERY - PART SEVEN (Marvel UK)

DOCTOR WHO's fiftieth anniversary is edging ever closer (77-odd countries are going to take the DAY OF THE DOCTOR simulcast "as live" or near as darn it... amazing!) and I'm doing my bit with a chronological romp through the covers of the various MARVEL UK WHO specials throughout November.

This is the 1984 SUMMER SPECIAL (adorned with a publicity still of Colin Baker snapped in Hammersmith Park, right behind BBC Television Centre... I've walked across that bridge myself!), dedicated to the show's merchandising.  And jolly good it was too.

The cover copy says it all really... pretty much every aspect of the show's spin-offs gets coverage (even sweets!).

The interview with BBC Merchandising's (now, many iterations later, BBC Worldwide) Christopher Crouch is interesting... not just for what he says but because it was conducted in the Langham opposite BBC Broadcasting House.  Now a top-notch hotel (again) but in the mid-eighties it was (yet more) offices for the sprawling BBC!
