From 1982 (presumably: there is no copyright date inside): the MARVEL UK CONAN THE BARBARIAN ANNUAL, published in association with Grandreams, and featuring Marvel's adaptation of that year's Arnie movie.
The barbarian had appeared as a supporting feature in several of the previous decade's British hardback (notably THE AVENGERS, reflecting the odd line-up of strips in the weekly) but this was the first dedicated annual.
In addition to the colour adaptation (reprinted from the US Super Special magazine), it also features several pages of colour features dedicated to the making of the movie.
A second annual, dedicated to the sequel, appeared later.
I have the annual for CONAN THE DESTROYER but not this one so thanks for the scans.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I do have the marvel super special version. Are the articles in that the same as the ones in this annual ?
time for the mid-week round-up :
ReplyDeleteFREE MAGS - FP had two of these - DC PREVIEW and CAPTAIN AMERICA 75TH SPECIAL
XENA - our favourite warrior princess has returned in comic's form and its a doozy.
2000 AD - Tharg the editor has rejected the notion of re-booting to no.1, especially with issue 2000 on the way.
COMIC HEROES - the new issue of this has appeared without any prior fanfare, par for the course with all of FUTURE's line of titles.
Thanks Ed.
DeleteThere was also the rather expensive hardback compilation of the Sixties British STAR TREK strips (from JOE 90 and successor titles) published by IDW. There was also the latest hardback dedicated to their vintage STAR WARS TRADING CARDS. This one covers ESB.
And there was also the latest DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE SPECIAL, dedicated to SFX throughout the show's history.
And I also picked up the latest (number 3) of the occasional WONDER WOMAN comics (published in the bookshelf format) based on the Seventies origin TV show.
did you get that trek volume ? my FP missed it as per usual.
ReplyDeleteMy instincts tell me that was the last issue of WONDER WOMAN as there is no ' next issue ' page.
