1982: FANTASTIC FOUR DECEMBER COVER GALLERY (Marvel UK)

Here's another instalment of my 1982-83 era FANTASTIC FOUR weekly cover gallery, covering (with an annoying gap) December 1982.

For some reason, I'm missing the 12th issue (although I have a few odd copies of duplicate issues boxed away somewhere and - with luck - I have a copy there) so apologies that this isn't entirely comprehensive.

The 9th issue dispensed with the cover-to-cover fantastic foursome formula in favour of adding an Iron Man back-up.  The shell head was another hardy perennial of the Marvel UK years that shuffled from book-to-book without ever hitting the big time.

  1. Hello! By sheer coincidence, I was missing FF 12 from an otherwise complete run but managed to get a copy on eBay a couple of months ago. Not sure if my scanner's up to the quality of your posts, but will happily email you a cover jpeg if you want. Great blog, by the way! Best wishes, Khayem

    1. Hello Khayem

      Lovely to hear from you...

What a freaky coincidence! Do you think that we're somehow sharing the same collection and never noticed? LOL

Thanks for the offer of a scan - that would be lovely. My scanner is a bog-standard one so I'm sure whatever you send will be fine.

    1. Hi Ed!

Congratulations! Which issue of the Megazine are you in? I'm not a regular reader by any stretch but I did buy the most recent one (on sale at the moment) because the story in the pollybagged archive supplement sounded interesting... not that I've actually read it yet... but I have opened the bag!

  3. by the way slow robot, speaking of missing issues, i have almost a complete run of SPIDERMAN WEEKLY from the 1980's except for issues 615-619...looking back I'm sure it was because they came out over the xmas holiday period and for some reason, my local shop never received them....if you ever find yourself browsing spidey issues, you can see my art in issue 579...

    1. Wow! Twice published. Maybe more!

I do remember that SPIDER-MAN's distribution was pretty dire during the 1980s and the chances of randomly finding a copy in a newsagents was pretty slim (although I do recall finding two or three issues of the SPIDEY COMIC incarnation in - of all places - a newsagent on London's Oxford Street. It was a shock to see how far the comic had fallen so quickly) which must have wrecked any chance of new or casual readers ever picking-up a copy and getting hooked. I certainly had to place an order with a newsagent... and even then the odd issue never seemed to arrive from the distributor.
